If you've been reading my blog you know that I have been trying to eat healthy, lose weight, etc. I was doing great for a while and then I don't know something changed and I went back to my old eating habits and I saw every single bad choice show up on my body.
Well it has been a little while since my last post! I'm going to try to summarize what we've been up to.
To commemorate the end of the school year, the school provided lunch for all of the teachers. There was no silverware, plates, etc so we had to eat the traditional way - with our hands. The below picture is the after for our table. Each table had this exact platter. #Experience #StayOpenMinded #NewForMe
Mike and I often talk about how our life here is vastly different from our lives back in the Queen City (Charlotte, NC).
Doing Staycations is something that we would never have done. One because our budget was tight and Two we never had time. So we jump at chances to Do Life Big!
Before coming here people were so quick to tell us about all of the things WE WOULD NOT be able to do. I am happy to report that many of those things simply are not true. People said I would have to always cover up. Nope. People said we would have to walk on different sides of the road or hallway. Nope. People said we would not be able to hold hands or show affection. Nope.
In the last post I talked about being in many different FB groups. This post will begin the same way. Recently I joined a group called UAE Staycations and after browsing through the group my first thought was where has this been all my life???
The first thing I saw that caught my eye was this...
One thing I've learned since being here is that there are Facebook groups for everything! I'm in a group on facebook called Best Bites of Abu Dhabi. This group is dedicated to people who like good food. Members of this group ask for recommendations for ladies nights, places to eat, places for takeout, and so much more. There are also various competitions that the admins of the groups will post too. I enter many of the competitions not thinking that I'll ever win. Well, my thinking was wrong! I won dinner for 2 at Al Ain Aloft's Thursday Seafood Feast at Olive Tree which is inside the hotel.
Al Ain is about an hour and a half from Abu Dhabi. It is actually one of the cities we could have been placed. So, Mike and I decided to make a weekend trip of going to Al Ain to enjoy the Seafood Feast.
8 months have gone by and Spring Break is here! Most of my colleagues and friends have planned to travel for Spring Break. Mike and I have gone back and forth about what to do and where to go. We decided since the weather was nice and there is SO much to do here we decided to do a Staycation. Yep, that's right we are going to relax and enjoy some of the things that the UAE has to offer. One place we decided to go to was IMG World.
This post is going to be a compilation of videos and pictures! We just had our first visitor from back home! The entire week was so fun and exciting! Which one of you will be next?
You may be saying I don't recognize your visitor. Or I don't know who your visitor is. Well, let me tell you a little story.
Mike is a Marvel fan. I have never been into cartoons or comic books until I met Mike. So needless to say I've seen EVERY Marvel movie. When Mike knew that Marvel was creating a movie about the Black Panther I knew we'd be in the audience on opening day. What I didn't know is that we'd be in Abu Dhabi!
In January one of our friends here in Abu Dhabi invited us and some other people to pre order tickets and see the movie the day it was released here. We were so excited for many reasons but 1 being that that the main characters and many of those behind the camera are black! How exciting to see black people in a positive light on a large screen. This was a time for us to represent for our culture. We had our outfits picked out weeks in advance. We even decided to make a weekend out of this and do a staycation. We got a hotel for the weekend and had planned to fully enjoy ourselves and celebrate our culture.
I will not discuss the movie because I want to encourage you to see it for yourself. The movie was amazing. As we were coming out of the movie we saw so many people in their African attire. It was such a great feeling to be 7000 miles from home and our people still show out for the culture. This weekend made me proud to be black even though I'm proud to be black all the time. 😀😀😀
Take a look at how we entered Wakanda.
Day 8: Today I woke up and was excited that I was halfway through with this detox. I drank my tea, made my smoothies and read my devotional for today. Today was great because it talked about powerful positive affirmation. Pretty much speaking things into existence!
I will lose the weight.
I am a conqueror.
I can finish this detox without cheating.
I am honestly ready to be done with this. I want a nice hot meal!
Today at work a colleague of mine said she could see a difference in my face. I have to admit that I was quite pleased.
Temptation is still around me. Look what was sent to my phone!
