Mike is a Marvel fan. I have never been into cartoons or comic books until I met Mike. So needless to say I've seen EVERY Marvel movie. When Mike knew that Marvel was creating a movie about the Black Panther I knew we'd be in the audience on opening day. What I didn't know is that we'd be in Abu Dhabi! In January one of our friends here in Abu Dhabi invited us and some other people to pre order tickets and see the movie the day it was released here. We were so excited for many reasons but 1 being that that the main characters and many of those behind the camera are black! How exciting to see black people in a positive light on a large screen. This was a time for us to represent for our culture. We had our outfits picked out weeks in advance. We even decided to make a weekend out of this and do a staycation. We got a hotel for the weekend and had planned to fully enjoy ourselves and celebrate our culture. I will not discuss the movie because I want to encourage you to see it for yourself. The movie was amazing. As we were coming out of the movie we saw so many people in their African attire. It was such a great feeling to be 7000 miles from home and our people still show out for the culture. This weekend made me proud to be black even though I'm proud to be black all the time. 😀😀😀 Take a look at how we entered Wakanda.

Day 8: Today I woke up and was excited that I was halfway through with this detox. I drank my tea, made my smoothies and read my devotional for today. Today was great because it talked about powerful positive affirmation. Pretty much speaking things into existence!
I will lose the weight. I am a conqueror. I can finish this detox without cheating. I am honestly ready to be done with this. I want a nice hot meal! Today at work a colleague of mine said she could see a difference in my face. I have to admit that I was quite pleased. Temptation is still around me. Look what was sent to my phone! Once we got back from our trip to Dubai, I went to the store to pick up all of the items I would need for my daily smoothies. I had read the book on my kindle this past week, joined the Facebook group, and saw that the key to being successful was prepping . So, that's exactly what I did. I came home and bagged up each day of smoothies. I had a separate bag for my veggies and fruit. Well I’ve gone around the sun 1 more time and I feel very blessed about that. I think I may have said this before but if anyone would have told me that I’d be in the United Arab Emirates at this stage in my life I would not have believed them…AT ALL! The week of my birthday last year I had my own fashion show/week at work. Everything I wore each day to school was something that I made and that made my week so awesome. This week I decided to wear new abayas to work. There is something about wearing nice new clothes that make you feel so great! I went to work feeling great. I saved my new favorite abaya for Thursday. See the pictures below.
This is for all of my Martin fans... Well did ya...
I'm back. I took a break from blogging because I was on break and wanted to thoroughly enjoy it. For National Day many people take advantage of the long weekend and travel. I was one of those people. A friend of mine who I've known since high school, Shanda, and I decided to go to Hong Kong.
On December 2, 1971, 7 emirates that make up what is now known as the UAE came together. This was done under the leadership of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Car rallies, dance shows, fireworks, and other special events are held to commemorate this special occasion. People dress up in UAE colors, decorate their homes, and cars as a way to show their love for their country. It is really something to see. At my school we had a whole day dedicated to celebrating National Day. We were given scarves and pins to wear. Once at school I found out that the boys would be leaving around 11-11:30am inshallah and my first class of the day is at 12:30pm! What a day! The boys sang songs. Some of them were dressed in authentic UAE Military Uniforms. They twirled fake make shift guns. They played musical chairs and there was a tug of war teachers versus students competition. It was a really cool day! We moved to Abu Dhabi to save money and to travel. Before we got here we created a list of all the places we wanted to go. Since we've been here we've added to our list not only because we got a scratch off map, where you scratch off the places you visit, but because we've been intrigued by the world around us because we've lived in a box called America for so long. For the last week or so we have been talking about going out of town to see more of Abu Dhabi. In our conversation, the list of places we wanted to visit came up in conversation. I knew Mike really wanted to go to Egypt so I suggested we go there for a weekend getaway. After careful planning, I was able to create an affordable trip for us. (When I leave education I should definitely be a travel planner!) Soooo.... WE SPENT OUR THANKSGIVING IN EGYPT!!!!!!Since we've been here we have only had great experiences. The food has been amazing, the people we've come in contact with have been helpful and nice, and the buildings are awesome to see.
When the Emirates Palace announced that they would be starting brunch again we were all too excited. That was a place that I had on my list of places I wanted to visit. It was where the Fast and Furious 7 was filmed and many people know about Abu Dhabi because of this place. We booked our table in advance and we waited in anticipation. Well during lunch this week one of my colleagues said, "Ok girls, we're halfway through this trimester." I wish you could hear her because she's from South Africa but has lived in New Zealand for years. So her accent is something else. Anyway, I couldn't believe it. Trimester 1 is 15 weeks and here I am beginning Week 8. These past 2 weeks have been rather eventful. |
